Hey everyone! Transplant as of a few days ago to the Dallas, TX area from the gorge. Anyone know the spots/wind around Dallas? Thinking of heading to Galveston this weekend if it has promise of better wind. . .

Thanks!
Grant

Grapevine? Seems like I remember that name from windsurfing days.

Hi, I’m a Galveston escapee... from what I’ve heard there’s somewhat of a scene (and a shop even) in Texas City, located along the Houston Ship Channel. Lots of flatwater & big kites. I guess there are a few folks who kite occasionally in the reservoirs around Austin as well.

Good luck!

My bro lived in Ft. Worth for a while on Eagle Mtn. Lake and I was probably the first if not the only person to ever kite there. We took his boat out to an island to find a beach I could launch off of...not sure where there might be launchable space on the shore line.

He raced sail boat there all the time and the lake does get wind. Take up wing foiling and launch problem is solved! Smile

I've met many a Dallas resident vacationing in South Padre Island, but hear it's a long drive. (I've done the 6 hours there from Houston before).

Hit bypass freeway skirting Austin, 85 mph. Head straight to Corpus Christi, no need for u to go to Galveston, a rare day when the wind will be better there than Corpus. Corpus cheaper and more kiting options than SPI. SPI good in winter/spring due to side shore on NNW fronts. Corpus has flat water Laguna riding, bump/jump Bay and waves in Gulf, Windy spot!

Corpus is windy all the time, and has many options for wind, go there.

hey, i grew up on lake texoma, just north of dallas.
it's windy there, though, as with most lakes, it gets a little gusty.

i would guess that lake grapevine would be big enough to kite on as well with the wind.

i've also been on lake lavon, and we had to hide from the wind...

you should be ok!
i don't think kiting is very big there though. you may be solo seshin it for a while!

We moved from Portland area to corpus a few months ago. Lots of Kiteboarders in Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin. Those guys come to corpus a fair amount. Galveston is lite wind but today looked great due to hurricane potential in corpus. Tons of riding options in corpus and lots of nice riders. Kites 100+ days since February.
