When some people were posting arguments against the ban of plastic grocery bags last year I was on their side. What I disliked at that point was the reckless way how some shopers throw their filthy unwashed reusable bags on the sash register belt. I considered it to be extremely unsanitary. Well, the bags were banned in Oregon anyway. What a smart move right before we got into this epidemic nightmare on the side of the genius people in Salem. And I am not going to waste my time reminding those who were in favor of the ban about their nearsightedness. Even though there are studies out there , easy to find, that support public health benefits of plastic bags. Sometimes emotions win over pragmatic facts. As someone said, stupid is as stupid does.

Or, simply put a temporary ban on reusables like Rosauers in HR, and back to paper for now.

Would you please stop voting those Genius People to Salem. They are better off in your community. You have no idea how bad all those politicians act while here. They come in town and the Circus begins.

It's interesting to me that one could refer to a call to stop the use of single use plastic as shortsighted. The "pragmatic" facts are that plastic is pretty damn permanent and we are running out of places to safely put it. It's already in the food you eat for example. Getting plastic out of the food chain, among other things, is pretty farsighted.

The suggestion that reusable bags are a major cause of the COVID 19 outbreak is just too far of a reach for me. Certainly there are bigger fish to fry. And yeah it's a moot point if you shop at Rosauers.

brass, with all the respect, have you ever been in any Metro recycling centers? That is where I take all my plastics, not only the bags. The plastic collected there gets reused to make new plastic containers and bags. The rest of them, and that is a very minuscule amount, that ends up being disposed is dumped in a landfill in eastern Oregon where nobody ever lived and never will. By the way, look at products like plastic kayaks and such, they are simply reused milk jugs.Plastic is a great invention that saves other, more precious natural materials. The problem with plastic bags being pollutants comes from third world countries where they don't care. That's where the battle is, not in my Safeway. Also, the A&J Market in Stevenson just like Walmart stores offer plastic bags, supposedly dissolving faster than paper bags, if you believe it. Anyway, where did you get the info that plastic bags are in our food I don't know. you would have to show me a solid fact. I know there is an endless source of false info on the net for sure and it depends if you want to believe it or not. I judge things by my experience. Basically, I see the only thing that changed is we now pay 5 cents for something we used to get for free.
Also, I don't know where you read that reusable bags are a major cause of Covid 19. I said it is UNSANITARY to put these unwashed bags, and I saw this several times, on the cash register belt. That is reckless and pretty filthy at this time especially. There are more germs and viruses than Covid 19 and I put my groceries on that same belt too, you know ?

No grocery stores in civilized parts of this state will allow customers to bring reusable bags. Moot point much?

Obakarams, why are you whining about this on a KITESURFING FORUM? Because your local newsrag shut down its comments section? Have you even posted anything about kiting on here?

Now go hunker down, stay the fuck at home, and read about how much plastic you are eating. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Good question. I don't know why ! Maybe to get some civilized language out of a member of a civilized society.

I think what's off here is the perception that reusable grocery bags are these deadly bio-hazards. You here the same bunk about reusable water bottles and bulk food. All these "studies" brought to you by Big Plastic USA so Susie Walmart feels great about her 5 flats of 8oz bottled water and putting her bananas in plastic bags for the long journey home.

In terms of Covid, Safeway let's you bring your bags as long as you bag - I kinda get that. But Costco wants to hand me a box that's been handled and exposed to hundreds of people down the supply chain instead of me using a bag that only I have handled?

I'm always amazed how much I learn on this forum about things that have absolutely nothing to do with kiteboarding.

Isn't it protocol to preface political opinion unrelated to kiting with "OT:"?
