Just got a note from Daryl at the Port explaining that we should be experiencing some extra low water levels while the Bonneville Dam Locks are being repaired.

Not sure how long, but updates are to be expected on a daily or consistently updated basis, as loaded barges are stuck in limbo for the moment.

This means mega big sandbar in HR and elsewhere.
But also means full on milfoil grass nastiness in some shallow areas, so be aware if you are a foiler and never, ever crash your kite in these areas.

Also came across many deadheads just above and below the water level yesterday. I never knew they existed and shudder at the thought of my foil hitting them at 20 mph. Focus on the middle of the river for play time and slow speeds launching and landing.

Portland District has awarded an emergency repair contract to begin construction on the sill and get Bonneville's navigation lock back up and running.
The navigation lock is expected to "return to service" on September 30, beginning at 10 a.m.
We understand that this lock closure is significant. The Corps is working around the clock to restore Columbia River traffic as soon as possible.
