Only advice I could add is place them front to back not side to side. I've used Slingy and RE hooks on Slingshot and North boards (with inserts already there) and the first-gen Slingy hooks tore right out. (Fortunately their customer service is exceptional).

I too was on this hunt for my Kanaha Shapes 37 & 42 as it also has no footstrap/hook inserts. But I got over it.
If your goal it to hook-in for boosts than I can see pursuing this, or finding a different board. If you are simply wanting an easier waterstart then my advice would be to give it a few weeks and a dozen sessions and learn to waterstart strapless. You won't look back.
On other boards like the Dwarfcraft and Alien Air I've snapped many foothooks. It gets tiring sending money to NSI so often.

Nope, will not work. Those things would be fine with a normal strap where the force to pull them off is straight up but a foot hook acts like a lever and will pry them off very quickly. Just think of how you would apply the force to remove a stick down item and compare that to how a foot hook would apply force. And, Go ahead, ask me how I know this.

I made my own version of the mount. I used a piece of Corian and some Tee-nuts and glued it on with Shoe-goo. I probably have 3x the surface area of the NSI version. It hasn't pulled-up yet and it's on good enough that I was able to break a hook. At one point I decided I needed to move the hook forward so I pried it off with a chisel and reattached it. It didn't come off easy.
I'm a beginning foiler and only use a front hook, so I probably don't stress it as much as other people, but it seems well connected to me.

We've done this on a couple of boards during the early foiling days when we were either in need of alternative footstrap or hook locations, or to replace blown out inserts.
Photo is of a surfboard we had converted for foiling/surfing.
The original inserts tore out and we replaced them with the stick on inserts.
This was done about 3-4 years ago and are still holding on fine.

Great to see the stick on inserts I designed many years ago still filling a need. Maybe a design update is in order.
All the best,
Hein

They work fine for hooks and straps.
If it failed - it's probably because the prep work was sloppy.
It's important to sand the board smooth and clean up any and all grime with Isopropyl alcohol.
Also important to have a method to firmly press onto the board - I use a linoleum roller.
I've done this to over a dozen surfboards and foils. No failures.
