Tue Aug 06, 19 4:26 pm Do Foils Deter Shark Attacks? |

I know this is a stupid question; but it seems to me that a shark would be tempted to attack the foil before it bit me??? I have a theory that I would be a little safer surfing on the Oregon coast with a foil.
What do you guys think? |

I spent a week foiling in Florida in the Ft. Walton/Destin area. We watched sharks under our foils that didn't even flinch as we went over them. _________________ "I have often regretted my speech, never my silence" ~Xenocrates |

If you purposely ding up the trailing edge and make that extremely annoying whistle, wouldn't that drive anything away? _________________ CGKA Member

There was talk in Kailua a couple of months ago about a shark attack on a foil. Not the foiler, the foil. Guy was riding and a shark bit the wing. I didn't see it myself, but spoke to people who saw the wing with the shark bite... |

YEAH! That was a story I was hoping to hear. It just seems like if I were a shark, I'd definitely bite the wing before I bit the soft meat on top. |

It was a 633 wing. The theory was--and it was just an amatuer theory--that the delta wing shape looked like a ray, a natural food source for a shark. Anyways, the story went that the shark swam around for a bit while the guy kept the foil between him and the shark. If it had me, I would have had to replace my board shorts afterwards... |

just to add to your apprehension
sharks are extremely curious about splashing - when i fell off the foil in the south pacific i could see the sharks come racing in to check me out (normally this wouldn't worry me too much but i watched them up close and personal dismantle a 50lb fish i had speared the day before - quite horrific and fast)
so if you fall - dont splash and definitely dont injure yourself - they really like twitching meat, maybe more than blood
also on a side note - dont use single use plastic water bottles - sharks hate them
my buddy Josh figured out if you squeeze a plastic water bottle underwater - it makes the same sound as a sharks teeth crunching a parrot fish (if you spend all day in the water, you learn shit) we could summon the shark army with this trick - supercool _________________ Go Deep!

Flipper, if you’re even thinking bout that shiz, you’re breaking the first rule of ocean safety....”you are where you’re at”!!!!!
Your cosmic vibration reverberates quite loudly in saltwater, so leave “it” on the beach or just stay on the beach and let your mind wander..... |
