Tue Jul 30, 19 6:06 am Which board? Killed my celeritas |
|
|
Ok after 3 solid years my celeritas died last night at the lower hatchery.
Which board to buy TODAY the slingshot screamer or celero ?
I am 200 plus and been riding with straps. I don't jibe and switch my feet. Ride toe side and hunt for swell.
Up wind performance and hard turning are important.
Opinions please. |

I had been riding the previous years 5'8" Celeritas and have switched to the 5'6" Celero . the new construction is light weight and provides a more connected surfboard feel. I have used the board at the coast in small mushy waves and in river swell. Love it !

The new celero is available in 5'6 or 5'10 . I was on the 5'8 previously and went with the 5'6 and am very happy with it . _________________ Slingshot | Ride Engine |Try before you buy | PM me

Curious as to what happened to it? Did the top deck break? Board snap in half?
Did you take a pic of it?
Demo before you buy if you can, but I'd go with the 5'6'' Celeritas if you're mainly riding out in the gorge. |

Screamer is a completely different ride from your Celeritas.
It's not as loose surfy - it likes to be ridden hard and fast fully powered.
Not as good surfing swell as the Celeritas.
Upwind performance is fin dependent. For your size - I like medium sized stiff fins.
My style is the sane as yours - except I switch feet when I ride upwind.
I loved my Celeritas so much - I bought 2 a few years ago so I'll always have one.
You should be able to find a 2019 5'8" Celero on sale.

The board buckled in the middle. Didn't think I landed that hard. Did not notice much difference at first. But riding towards Oregon water was spraying on my front foot.
That was different. Got to shore and could bend the board by hand.
So its probably a celero But which one 5'6 or 5'8.
No time to demo its windy. |

I ordered the 5'8" celero. I hope it does not feel to big.
I liked my 5'8" celeritas for it ability to not sink in up and down wind.
Thanks for help. |

The Celero 5'8 is the EXACT same specs as the 2015-18 Celeritas 5'8...
5'8x18.5x2.25 @ 26ltrs

The 2019 model came in 5'6, 5'8, 5'11
Since they're on sale, it looks like that's what he got.
It would be interesting to compare the updated version/sizes. |

I have and ride my 2009 Celeritas; the first year it came out. It has the squared back and was made by Doyle. It is 5'4''; I love it. |

I see I'm late to the party but I think you made the right choice. I compared the Screamer to Angry Swallow a few years back and my experience plus friends' feedback was the Screamer needed to be powered or it schlogs. I'm 180 lbs and ride the 5'4" Angry Swallow but recently switched to the 5'8" Celero - I think of the Swallow as a Porsche but the Celero feels like a Ferrari. Newer construction should be more durable too, and Slingshot customer service has been exceptional with the few issues I've had. |

Oh, I upgraded to FCS II Performers on the Swallow (2015? My wife calls it the 'porn' graphics... Tony I bet you know those girls... which I run as a quad and I feel like it made an improvable difference, especially in lighter wind. Because I got the 5-pack I upgraded the primary fin on my Celero from the get-go. My friend is a smaller female riding a smaller Celero and felt the stock fins were too big. I was able to set her up with smaller fins using the retro kit and some nice FCS I surfboard fins I had lying around that were too small for me, and she loves it now. |
