Does anyone out there use balance boards to work on balance?
If so, any recommendations: Vew-do, Goofboard, Indo??
Cheers

I almost exclusively ride strapless but I haven't tried a balance board yet. I'd say the slacklining (hard to notice) and SUP (seems very obvious) that I do does have an impact on my riding.

After looking at the prices online (over $300 for some kits???) for those balance boards I'd say maybe try and DIY one for a demo session? That's a PVC pipe and a piece of scrap wood. Try that out for a week and you'll probably know if you want to invest more into it.

I think a circular balance disk is a much better tool, and a lot cheaper. Moreover, you will be forced to work on balance in a full 360 degrees, with a lot of ankle work rather than simply at 0/180 degrees which takes about 10 minutes to get good at.

The circular balance disk is significantly more challenging--in a good way.

Example: https://www.prosourcefit.com/products/wooden-balance-board?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=googlepla&variant=6918136135744&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInfLr34DD3wIVNSCtBh0fewurEAQYBSABEgJgN_D_BwE

If you ever get the urge to try foiling, the circular is absolutely the way to go, imo.

I built mine out of a scrap of 3/4 plywood and a 4” diameter piece of black PVC pipe.

I’m into it for maybe $4.

An old skate deck and a 2 liter bottle work just fine

For the "Surf Feel" the GoofBoard is the one I went with.
It's fun to use, well made and helps keep the muscle memory going.

Indo board is a perfect simulator for foiling.
My wife and I practiced on the Indo board the week before we started foiling and we both agree it speeded up our progress.
Riding a surfboard strapless is not hard. Once you get the waterstart and get going it's just a matter of "time on the water" to build muscle memory and confidence.

Both the balance board (Indo, Voodoo) and the wobble board (circular balance disc) are incredible tools for training for action sports and also for healing injuries. The goal of one is to balance and the goal of the other is not to balance. Completely different and both super useful.

Homemade balance board instructions above. Cut a croquet ball in half for homemade wobble board if you would like.

I doubt a balance board would help much for riding strapless, unless you are not an athlete at all. It's not that hard. Now SUP foiling... it would help that. That's like balancing on a greased pig.

Balance is balance, your're either in it or not. Like keeping a bowling ball on a pin in all directions. An acquired skill that can be lost, especially with age or underuse. All these things should help, or maybe try yoga on all of them too! Inflictor
