What can I expect for conditions in late may/early June on kauai near hanalei bay. Might be headed there next year (2019).
Thanks.

Should be pretty good - the kite spot there is a little more west - Tunnels - which has a good wave etc. It is exposed if you get blown downwind - ie you are then into the Napali Coast which is all cliffs. |

The safest and most consistent spot on Kauai is a spot called Kitchens at the very south end of Lydgate. Prepare to launch and land your own kite and bring a 6 pack to share with the locals. |

Just a heads up for tunnels. The road is closed but you can catch boats out of Hanalei and get dropped off right at the kite launch above tunnels. Expect at least 100 bucks round trip but expect up to 2 or 3. Your only other chance is to make friends with someone who lives there and catch a ride. The road is estimated to be open between July and September. When it opens be prepared to witness the biggest shitshow of tourists you have ever seen!!!! Best kiting ever though!!! |

Anini beach just east of Hanalei was good for me years ago windsurfing. Similar setup to Kanaha with a lot of room inside the reef. |

Anini is a much safer setup. If you have trouble at Tunnels, you're going to have a bad time. Also, May/June is not the wave season on the north shore, so don't expect much for swell. |

Problem with Anini is that it's sketchy at low tide. At high tide it's a great and fun place to kite, however Kitchens IMO is the best spot on the island. Just look at the airport sensor for accurate wind. Likely 12-14m conditions when you go. |

Actually summer is for sure the season to kite at tunnels. It’s way too much current and waves in the winter but does happen sometimes. A good stretch of trade winds will kick up at least head high waves at tunnels. South side can get really good in summer with nice south swell so there’s that. |
