Tue Oct 17, 17 1:17 pm Canceled - Event Site Improvements - volunteers needed! |
|
|
Port Staff could use a few volunteers on Monday October 23.
On that day Port Staff will be beginning the process of placing boulder reinforcement at the transition between the Lawn and the gravel beach. Volunteers could assist in beach clean-up and help in repositioning smaller rocks around the boulder reinforcement.
Once that work is completed a weekend volunteer event could clear the beach of unwanted rocks. After the boulder reinforcement and beach clean-up then several loads of new gravel will be installed with the hope of bringing the beach elevation up to the transition at the lawn.
I'm sure there's a lot of wisecracks we could post about the Port and the Event Site. $2.00 bridge toll and $70.00 parking pass.
Being a local - I'm eternally grateful to have the Event Site in my life. I'm had ~ 100 days of kiting this summer from the Event Site and I work a full time job.
This plan to improve the beach sounds great. We can remove those pesky rocks that snag our lines. Then the whole beach gets covered in gravel - hopefully pea gravel.[b] Last edited by ldhr on Thu Oct 19, 17 10:14 am; edited 1 time in total |

Thanks Laird,
I too really appreciate the Event Site resource and feel that $70 is very reasonable for what I get in return.

Beautiful plan and so needed. Thanks! I'll be down in the afternoon to assist. |

Can we get a time or an accurate list of what needs to be done so we can help. Pouring concrete on the morning and will need a cold rinse !! _________________ Take a breath; inhale |

Those f*****s should hire some workers, how cheap can you be? Damn right people should laugh at this, they have so much cash. This feels like them rubbing it in and having people grovel to help. Maybe have a huge BBQ afterwards with free kegs of beer, that sounds about fair, but just show up? Wow, won't see me there(I know, but if I were
I would need free beer). Just smacks of bad taste. I could see if it were a county park, but it's the damn port!! |

There is a huge opportunity cost having the Event Site. The gate does not cover the maintenance cost, let alone what the parcel could generate if it were used as light industrial etc.
I really appreciate this parcel being devoted to recreation, buy my pass willingly, and am very thankful for its existence.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop LD . It's not often that we can participate in kiting related building/modding/maintenance, no matter how minor; I can recommend doing so - MTB trail build parties are not just good karma but you end up feeling connected to the land and the other peeps. I suspect the Port has pretty tight parameters for the work but this is a good opportunity for kiters to step up and be visible and keep that relationship strong. Let us know when it's rescheduled for. |
