I used to do these religiously back in my triathlon days. Then I dropped them... Now, I'm taking 6 months off from work and kiteboarding. There's a fair chance I could have avoided this injury if I'd been doing the simple, easy rotator cuff exercises.

I was at the Event Site riding, going way too fast. (foiling) I crashed. I went forward into the water streamlining myself with my arms straight out. When the bar hit the water there was a lot of force on the bar pushing my arms back hard. A lot more force than I had ever felt before due to my speed. That impact tore my rotator cuff. For a day or two I just thought I pulled a muscle. Pretty soon though it became obvious that something pretty serious was wrong. Damn.

Anyways, I'm posting this to raise awareness that kiteboarding can cause damage to the rotator cuff. ( I never thought it...) Doing rotator cuff exercises really toughens the 'cuff up and can prevent an injury like mine. Google it to find some exercises. The exercises are really easy, take very little time and use very small weights. So small you feel kind of like a wuss using them in a gym! LOL. If it offends your masculine sensibilities buy some small weights and do the exercises at home. Very Happy

Great advice. One thing you might consider, especially if you have some sort of insurance coverage, is to go see a physical therapist to have them coach you a bit so that you do the aforementioned exercises with the correct form. Subtle differences in how you undertake these exercises (especially if you are already injured, in which case you will probably do the exercises incorrectly to compensate for your injury) can make major differences in your personal outcome. My last PT visit cost me $17.50--a worthwhile expenditure.

If you're a gym-goer, a trainer could help you with form.

Stupid shoulders... I'm getting my 2nd SLAP repair in about 4 weeks. Bah! Crying or Very sad
