Tue Aug 15, 17 5:01 am Tips for getting a higher aspect foil wing on a plane? |
|
|
I'm kinda gross motor and my water starts are too slow to plane up on medium aspect wings. My current technique is to ride board flat until I get a bit of board speed then rise up to foil. I see others pop up to foil almost instantly on GW wings, even in swell, and marvel at it. I want me some of that!
Any tips?
Thanks,
Eric |

I was riding some higher aspect wings yesterday and realized I really need more cowbell to keep it up on a plane. in my experience, lower aspect wings work in the lightest wings but higher aspect typically need a little bit more kite to get them going.
and try moving your mast maybe a 1/2"-1" forward to get it to pop up quicker. _________________ www.jimstringfellow.com |

I popped up right to the foil a month ago in Kailua. Once. I've been unable to duplicate the feat, and I have no idea how I did it! Other than that I'm riding the board first and then popping up too. |

You might already be doing this.... but try standing up on the upstroke of the kite, not the downstroke. This will give you power at an upward angle and allow you to hop straight to the foil. |
