Will the event site be closed to kite launching Saturday due to Windsurf racing? Does the Port have a site where they post closures or restrictions? Thanks! |

Ohh.. i hope not, the sandbar doesn't offer a viable launch place at the moment imho, hopefully windsurfers will be willing to share the space during their event in this rather unique circumstances. Everyone will need to be extra careful to give them more than enough of needed space for the racing.
I don't see anything on the Port of Hood River announcements page: https://portofhoodriver.com/waterfront-recreation/announcements
But it would be good to get some confirmation from CGKA |

If I remember correctly it seemed like we shared the E Site nicely last year under similar constraints, during the "Windfest". Just so all respect the Mason-Dixon Line. _________________ CGKA Member

I thought they had Gorge Cup Races (windsurf Slalom or Triangle depending upon wind strength) every 2 weeks or so all season. Never seen the ES closed for them before.
But do be polite and respect goes a long way in crowded situations. |

No - the ES will not be closed to kiting.
The Gorge Cup has races 2 times a month during the wind season.
They usually set a course between the ES and Wells Island on the Oregon side of the river.
A good turnout will be 20 racers divided into 2 groups - not a huge event.
Reminder - windsurfers volunteered 100's of hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars to build the Event Site in the 1990's..... long before kiting appeared on the scene.
Please give them respect and lots of space !
Wondering how long before they start up a windsurf foil race division? |

Sure tell everyone it's closed. Keeps the crowd down. |
