Tue Oct 25, 16 8:45 am Snowkiters - Free Avelance Training Today |
|
|
Sorry about the late notice on this.
There's a free avelance awareness class tonight being held at SK Northwest. This would be a good class for anyone who just picked up a sled/timbersled for the first-time or anyone snowkiters who wants some basic avelance training. A few kiters went to the class last night at Pro Caliber. It was about 3 hours with lots of good information videos and instructions. Most people brought beacons, a good portion of the class was going over how to operate your beacon, how beacons generally operate and how to conduct searches with and without beacons.

Please note:
Basic Avalanche Training (Avy 1) is a 3-day course. not 3-hours.
What is mentioned in the posts above is a free awareness session where they direct recreation level enthusiasts to the proper training courses. Many certified Avy 1 courses are held in the Mt. Hood and Bend area this time of year and they fill up fast. Check on-line for schedules.
Please do not venture into avalanche terrain without proper training. |

Don't want to hijack this post, but there will be an official Avalanche Training seminar hosted at 2nd Wind Sports on Nov 7/8 with an 'on hill' follow up day in Dec.
This will be an actual class with a course fee, and run by Heikko Stopsack, who is a certified Avvy clinic instructor (as well as a career ski patrol, backcountry guide and life flight paramedic).
Will post details later for Hood River residents interested.
As Ken mentioned, anything less than a 3 day course is basically an Avalanche Awareness course, intended to motivate you to pursue official training. _________________ Pure Stoke Sports
