Also, I learned first on the 24" mast and then moved to the 35" one after a few sessions. I would definitely recommend it if it's an option. The falls just don't hurt as much and you can still foil plenty on the 24.

hey I wanted to add that matt wheeler and john bellacera are both making hydrofoils now (gorge built for gorge conditions) so keep that in mind when deciding on what to get. I've ridden both and are top quality craftsmanship and ride great. also john doyle and bellecera both are building foil specific boards.

Last month I ordered a Foil setup from John, It has been great. I have been out a few times at Rufus with the foil setup and I can say (although I still can't ride it) that it's great, solid, comfortable and really well suited for me and the Gorge conditions thus far. Talking with a few seasoned foilers - I went with a loose front strap only. I can definitely see the benefits of an impact vest also.

Riding the board alone as a direction has also been great - all around very happy so far.
