Water quality tests in the Columbia River in the corridor have apparently passed safety tests on day after the treatment water leak occurred in The Dalles.
DATE: May 6, 2016
TOPIC: Columbia River Water Quality Safe for Public Use
CONTACT: Public Works Department (541) 296-5401
FOR RELEASE: IMMEDIATELY
The problem that resulted in the discharge of treated but non - disinfected wastewater Wednesday evening through early Thursday morning was identified and corrected; normal disinfection was resumed at the treatment plant by 7:17 AM Thursday, May 5th.
Test results on samples collected Thursday afternoon indicated that the Columbia River water quality was, and is, safe for contact and public use. The delay in reading out the test results was due to the 24-hour incubation time the tests require.
Samples of the plant’s treated effluent will continue to be tested more frequently than required for the following week. Signs which were placed at locations of public river access along the Columbia River to warn of contaminated water will be taken down today.
The Department has been in communication with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, local health department officials, and other interest groups to coordinate public notice. Questions can be directed to the Public Works Department office at (541)296-5401. _________________ Pure Stoke Sports
