ASNEWS PODCAST #64:
One of the early icons of our sport, Mauricio Abreu started out as a pro surfer and turned to kiteboarding after seeing Laird Hamilton first kite. He was one of the original Maui crew known for his incredible style and helped design and test many boards and kites for Jimmy Lewis in the early years, and more recently, Wipika. Mauricio helped shape kiteboarding into what it is today. He was one of the first to kite strapless with a surfboard, and led the unhooked and wakestyle riding movement. If you look at any of the original kiteboarding videos, Mauricio’s riding style is still at the forefront of what we see on today’s beaches and in the most recent videos. Mauricio is charging just as hard today as he did when he first got stoked on kiting. A multi-talented boardsports athlete, Mauricio just signed on with Liquid Force and is our guest for this week’s podcast.
