Ice is soon to be out and I have decided to go with a dry suit. I have narrowed it down to the NRS Extreme and the Boost by O'Neill. I would like some advice from guys who know and not salesman/websites. Thank you to anyone who can help me out. eric in des moines, ia.

Do a search here, there's been lots of good info in past threads. Or, just get a Kokatat! The best drysuit hands down. They're spendy as hell, but deals can be found. One just went on Ebay last week for $335.

I bought the ION 4/3, very warm and movement is great. No relief zipper though.

A buddy of mine has the Kokatat and he said the material will kind of seep in water over the course of your session. Although, I have to admit the relief zipper would be nice.

I used to have the Oneil Boost which works great. Can't beat it for the price point. It is simple, yet well constructed and does the job.

I sold it this season though and got the OR Predator (surf dry) suit. That or other OR suits would be good. I don't think the Predator is worth the price premium, but now that I've gotten used to putting it on, it is a really nice suit to wear. It's warm and sleek in the water. The nice thing about the Ocean Rodeo suits is that they're designed specifically for kiting and have features we appreciate.

In the end, you'll probably be fine with either of the two you mentioned, though. The most important thing I've found is to have warm boots and gloves!

Best thing about Kokatat is th lifetime warranty. If your buddies suit is seeping, they'll send him a new one free!

Kokatat is the way to go. Search drysuit on the site as suggested and you'll find pages of other folks saying the same.

The NRS is cheap, and you'll get what you pay for.

One thing that was mistaken in an earlier post here is the lifetime warrantee on the Kokatat: Kokatat will water test and repair your suit for any leaks that you put in by body dragging down the beach, for example. The service is $50 plus any repairs and shipping ($10 each way), so its not free. They won't replace it for free unless the GoreTex goes bad (which it won't). The suits are good enough and expensive enough to fix, while everything else on the market ends up in someone's closet and never gets used, or dies in a landfill.

The NRS, despite being an inferior product, DOES have a true lifetime warrantee. They stand behind everything 100% forever, and there stuff is all made in China so they can afford to replace it a number of times for free. Kokatat on the other hand is HAND MADE IN AMERICA, made of the best material out there and will last forever.

If the suit is seeping, the Gore tex is bad. It happens. I bought a 10 year old suit off eBay for cheap. Really cheap. The gore tex leaked... Kokatat sent me a brand new suit, no questions asked. Very Happy

Been wearing Kokatat dry suit for 18 years. Gortex with boots is the bomb! Kayaking shops carry them. Mostly on sale in fall or spring. Not cheap! Kokatat Mail in service is the best.

The critical design features may be:

1. Water tight ankle cuffs w/bare feet option or decent foot dexterity from in split-toe neoprene booties vs. whatever footwear you wear over the over sized floppy integrated dry Gore-tex sock. River footwear is about all-day comfort not sensory reception.

2. Do any paddle sport drysuits have integrated suspenders (O'Neill Boost)?
