I am tossing around the idea of going to Maui for the long weekend (potentially 5 days), Friday the 12th (Thursday night maybe) thru Tuesday the 16th. I am fairly new to kiting and I've heard Maui is a great place to learn and practice, not to mention it's WARM!!!! Airfare is around $500 and I am all for camping on the beach. Anyone interested??

I would encourage you to re-consider. Yes - it is warm.
It is not a good spot to learn - the wind is flukey in close and there are a lot of obstacles - reefs, rocks etc.

Also - camping on the beach - with the homeless people - might not be a good idea

I took a 3 day (9 hour) lesson from Aquasports 4 thanksgivings ago for around $600. They actually gave me around 11 hours and I was staying upwind by the end. 10 and 12 meter kiting and a bit crowded over the holiday but I'd say better than the Gorge for learning except August with a jet ski.

Spend the extra money and get a lesson that includes jetski. It's pretty warm down in La Ventana I just was down there and wore a shorty the whole time. It was great.
