I've heard mixed reports - how was it out east today?

I don't know about the Eastern sites, but the wind and swell was surprisingly good at the Hatchery in the early afternoon (2:00-3:00) with hardly anyone on the water.

Dougs was okay... until it wasn't...
There were moments of great swell, but sometimes keeping your kite in the sky was challenging. At one point it was gusting from about 12mph to 43 mph. Big pops followed directly by lulls.

I was at Rowena yesterday (Thursday) on my 7m from noon to 3 boosting. Today 5m with plenty of boost even on my tiny wave kite. Pretty empty both days. No beach either day but only knee deep

Sat Aug 22, 15 10:27 am Maryhill Roosevelt Thursday and 3 Mile on Friday |
|
|
Business trip to Yakima put me close for a trip down to Maryhill and Roosevelt Thursday afternoon. Solo launch at Maryhill was a treat and a bit punchy at times on the Washinton side but nice 6' swell towards Oregon. Was solid 7m. Roosevelt has a punchy launch but the wind was building towards the evening and the wind really consistent for a 7m on a TT. The epic session was 3 mile Friday evening around 4pm when I was driving back to Portland. The occasional 7ft roller coming through, nice and smooth….such a nice stretch of river to kite.
First time out that direction but definitely worth the drive when it's going to blow. The swell was like nothing I've ridden before in the Gorge. Nirvana.
Too bad for the fires though. Smelled like a campfire the whole way back with the occasion sun blackout.
Cheers.
