Hi,

Here are a few shots from New Year's Eve at close to the 10,000 foot level on Hood.

Sorry if they don't load easily. I am not too photo-computer-upload savy.

Have FUN.

hey luke,

beaufiful shots. i, too, am curious. wind direction, speed, and location woud be much appreciated.

any hassles from ski patrol or timberline? did you just have to sign in at the climbers registry?

it looks like a south wind up above the palmer snow field.

On that day I launched about 50 yards from the parking lot and then worked my way up above the top of the Palmer lift outside of the resort boundaries. The wind was NW at 15. I was using an 07 Ozone Frenzy 10m. The ski patrol only have juristiction over the resort, so no worries if you stay out of the resort. The climber registration is a good idea. I am bad about that.

Please keep in mind that terrain outside the resort boundary is full-on, big mountain, backcountry. On the right day you can summit in tennis shoes and on the wrong day.... Know your stuff.

I got a weird look from a dad in the parking lot when I tried to help his family decide where to go sledding. He seemed to listen once I pointed out the recent avalanche outside the boundary, 100' from the parking lot. Maybe, the fact that some empty beer cans fell out of my car when I pulled in had something to do with it. Haa!

Sweet shots and info! Thumb's Up

What time were you riding at? I was over at Meadows boarding on New Year's "eve" around 3:00ish and kept glancing up from Vista to see if anyone was up there (wind felt around the same where I was, but it was pretty icy, so I didn't know how it would be higher up).

You can't really tell since my little, point and shoot, digi still Sony doesn't take the greatest video (super over-exposed here), but this is what the wind was like on Vista (December 31st).

P.S. - How long did it take you to work your way up there? I never would have thought that would be possible, especially outside T-line's boundaries.
