I was there that day, about a mile away checking out the research boat tagging GW's (the folks that track the GW's all over the eastern seaboard). We've seen the seal population go from 1000 to 50,000+ in about 25 years. The shark numbers are nutty. That same day the research boat saw two 12 footers, and a fisherman a couple miles down the beach saw a 12 and 14 footer swim under his boat in about 6' of water.
I surfed the day before... it was a bit unnerving. |
