That's the best time to send huge airs. Wait till your lit, yank on the bar, and send it. Don't ride scared.

Get comfortable with deciding to and committing to jump within a 1 second window. Likecpc219 said, when the gust hits commit and jump. Basically this means get comfortable jumping in any water surface condition (chop, swell, chaotic crap that is near event site in HR and Jones OR side, etc.). Otherwise you will spend tack after tack waiting to feel comfortable to fire off that jump. One way to practice this is to fire off a series of jumps right after each other so you have little time to prepare for the next. Have fun getting back upwind after that |

Dimitri has the best tutorial videos out there to explain how to boost... Step 1, 2, 3, 4 apply in any wind conditions...

However in gusty and chop, it's also about timing everything based on gusts and chop.
Personally, I wait until I feel the right among of pull (meaning the gust) and time everything after that based on the water / chop...Read the water, look for a kicker and time sending the kite shortly before attacking the kicker for step 2 and 3 as explained by Dimitri...
Unless you have really good popping technique, using the chop/kicker will make it a lot easier and make a big difference in high you will go and how smooth the jump will be. |
