Are there any kite launch sites on Cathlamette island? |

If you are talking about the island that has a bridge from the Washington side and the ferry on the Oregon side - there is - sort of. It is actually a collection of islands. The largest is Puget Island. Then there is Little Island, Ryan Island, Jackson Island, Browns Island and Whites Island. Whites Island is where the "ponds" are, and it is the closest spot to the normal Oregon launch. At low tide - you can rig and launch at the ponds. You just need a boat or wave runner to get there. There are no roads or trails. The other islands are too far upwind. As you get closer to Cathlamette - the wind tends to die. There is a big sandy beach at the west tip of Puget Island - but I doubt there is any wind there. |

One of the OGs at the Event Site once told me that Skamokawa was pretty good in the windsurfing days. He said it has a view of the Astoria bridge and so has really good fetch. Hard to believe it's better overall than Jones though |

Looks like there is a sandy beach there at Vista park. So there would be room to rig and launch. But if it is normal NW summer wind, that means it would be slightly offshore. Break down and you are ditching your gear or ending up on Welch Island. |

That and the ships literally are 100-200 feet from the shore. _________________ Switch Nitro II (8m, 10m, 12m)
