Seeking advice on progressing to more consistent load and pop. Right now only decent jumps are when launching off chop or rollers. I can't seem to get the timing to load and pop either with or without sending the kite. Any suggestions are appreciated.
May have to invest in more lessons. Anyone at same level and interested in group lesson? Please pm. |

You don't need lessons, there are lots of YouTube videos covering it. Plus the " progression " series are pretty good. Save your money for the bigger tricks.
The biggest mistakes I made were not brining the kite to 11 and not doing the sequence quickly. I would either get yarded, pop too small or loose speed and not pop at all.
You could also be limited by the board you are riding |

Thanks for the replies.
I've been wondering if my board is part of the problem. It's a Best Breeze 145cm. I'm 165lbs and since I usually ride in the late afternoon/early evening, this board makes it easier to plane as wind comes down but it might not carve as well as a shorter board. |

I see a lot of people struggle with hooked in pop because they don't drive the board against the kite enough, and therefor fail to get the "whip" effect that launches you into the air.
The problem is, you should be launching with the board pointing almost directly upwind to get the most air. But if the board is pointing straight up wind, you have to bring it around a whole 180º to land heel-side.
Because of this, most people learning to pop are not aggressive enough, or cant get the board back in-front of them to land.
In my opinion, popping to toeside (or doing a back roll) is a much easier way to learn proper load and pop form.
While it may seem harder at first, it will force you to be more aggressive and learn to pop with the board and not the kite.
Start small, try and get a few inches off the water:

Once you can make those, get aggressive and try to get a few feet.

As Idhr said, head out a little overpowered and give them a shot. Keep the kite a little higher than 45º and you should be golden!
(Once you have that, try some inverts. They are way easier than they look)

Thanks for the video links. I'll give popping to toeside a try and work on doing the sequence faster. |
