Tue May 26, 15 3:06 pm Lost/Found - Reminder to put your name on your gear |
|
|
Name, number and 'reward', should be written on any piece of equipment you value.
It's about that time of year when there are becoming more and more pieces of equipment being either left behind at the beach or separated from their owners due to minimal body dragging skills
*Side note 1 - good body dragging skills = good kiting skills. If body dragging is difficult for you, that is more than a hint that you have some things to work on in regards to your kiting abilities.
Placing your name and number on your gear helps people like myself (I've either found or had handed to me 3 boards so far this year, at least 8 last year) an easier way for locating the owner with just a phone call instead of having to go through the typical rigamorale of tracking you down.
AND, it also keeps the honest people honest when finding your lost equipment and feeling the responsibility of wanting to get it back it's proper owner.
Lastly, this also makes it much easier for the Port of Hood River and the Beach Managers to help get your gear back to you when you contact them looking for your lost gear.
*Side note #2 - The Port will tag/inventory found gear with the date, location found, and whom turned it in.
Okay, done with my diatribe. _________________ Pure Stoke Sports

I second this sentiment. A couple weekends back I lost my board at the beach. After looking for it for 2-3 hours, then giving up cold, dejected, and really rashed out, my phone lit up with a hood river area call:
"I've got your board."
I gave him beers.
All was correct in the universe.
Write your info on your gear. Get one of those bus stop graffiti sized Sharpies for your boards. That's the shiznit.
Thank you for the save, hood river fellas! |

DONT BE AFRAID to write with a sharpie on you gear. On boards it will come off with Goo B Gone. Better to have a chance of getting it back than not at all. And if you sell or give it or trade it away the new owner can remove your info.
Its Vegas here on the river... play the odds. _________________ "I have often regretted my speech, never my silence" ~Xenocrates

Name and number, sure. Reward? I say, Do not write REWARD on your gear. The reward in returning someone's gear is in the Karma that comes with doing the right thing. Buy them a six pack or whatever you think is appropriate but advertising a reward really sets the wrong expectation IMHO.
BTW, I once gave a "reward" that had a value of and saved the finder of my board $2500.00. He expected nothing and then Karma kicked in.
I seriously do not want my board back if the finder will only give it to me for a REWARD. |

As a frequent loser of boards in my first years. Knock on wood... none lost lately. (body dragging is key)
The only time I didn't get a call one of my boards was when reward was not written phone number was. It ended up on craigslist.
All other times I got calls from all kinds of people. Only one time did someone ask for the reward. It was father and son fishing, son found the board, father asked for reward for boy.
Only once did I not give a reward by forcing them to take it. The guy was adamant he said something like "no. it's the right thing to do, It'll ruin my karma." |

I use my wife's nail polish remover.... and 3 minutes of elbow grease. Or paint stripper... and about 30 seconds of elbow grease. _________________ CGKA Member

It is his nail polish remover but to each is own.
Nail polish remover is acetone, so acetone works. Goofoff also works. Just let it sit for a couple of seconds and wipe. You may find that you cant remove 100% bit it will be effective enough. |

Isopropanol works great, the stronger the better (95% works better than 75%; less elbow grease required). |
