It will be a beautiful drive out on to the island. An a great evening for drinking beer, but kiting? Maybe a chance with an opposing tide (ebbing), a big to super big kite, and a foil board.
Don't know about Thursday. . .
I'd say hold off till tomorrow night and into the weekend. |

How can you tell in advance if the SI current will be moving in the right direction? _________________ CGKA Member |

Well I now rarely go to SI anymore for various reasons. Mainly cause the coast has the most. . .and SI is a tease and rarely puts out; seems like a 50/50 % chance for water time and I want better odds if I'm going to spend the time, gas, and effort. And don't get me wrong, SI can be magical. Steady wind, just outside of PDX and the drive is beautiful. And great place for learning.
So if I remember correctly, Frenchman's Bar just upriver a bit has a tide mark sensor. . .or something like that. I think it is about a 5 hour delay from the when the tide starts "flooding"/coming in at the mouth of the Columbia.
PM "Flying Dunes" as he is the SI Master.
Best conditions at SI are when the tide is ebbing out, creating an opposing force with the wind and increasing one's apparent wind speed (just like kiting up river in HR or Rufus etc etc sailing with West wind.
However, during Spring time like now (except for this year as the weather has been abnormal) the snow melt volume and currents tend to nullify the flooding tidal effect.
Confused now;-) |

From the wind alert app, you can select nearby tide. Per Fly Dunes (Steve), the best location to look at for Sauvies, is Knapp landing. Straight from the horses mouth today.
Don't tell him I called him a horse. : ) _________________ Thanks
