I know Jones has already gone off a few times this year (not that I've been there for it), but I think we're getting more into the season.

Right now, today and tomorrow afternoons look marginal for Jones. Friday is currently looking good. Really good. Keep your eye on it good.

If the current forecasts hold, I'll probably be there...

If it looks promising I will definitely head out there too. Hope to see you there!

Doesn't the forecast look barely marginal for Jones Beach - ikitesurf is forecasting 10mph? Or is there any special way of reading Jones Beach forecast? I've only been there once last year but it was very fun, so if there's a chance of Jones Beach going tomorrow I'm interested Smile

If you go to the bottom of the thread linked below, I list the signals I use:
http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-32155.html

The basic models (and forecast services) don't usually resolve the actual winds at Jones Beach very well, in my opinion. But the forecast models can frequently predict the factors that force the wind at Jones - even if they don't predict the wind itself.

I doubt Jones will go today since it's currently zero and Rooster is east at 24. Manzanita is already 14 and probably will hit the low 20's by 3. Prime time is 3-5. The bar graph forecasts on iwindsurf are computer based, so not really accurate but they tell you the general direction and timing. If Manzanita or Jones computer forecasts 10 plus, it's kiteable. Later on the human forecasts will get more detailed and mention them. If Portland is 20 degrees hotter than the coast and rooster isn't windy, then Jones will go. I'm trying to get to Manzo later today and the next three days should be stellar with today being a little big at 10' swell dropping to 6' Saturday

I heard the Manzanita waves were fearsome today !!

It's still looking good. I'm probably going to head out that way, and check it out when I get there. If it the indicators aren't looking positive, then I'll probably continue on out to Ft Stevens. Swell is a bit large for my taste - but if it's looking too nasty I suppose I can stick to the inside - or just sit on the beach and drink beer.

Jones is on like Donkey Kong! 21-23 wnw @ 295 degrees! Classic peak summer wind, crazy!!

To bad I'm on my way to Manzo for some wave shredding.

Just got to Jones. It's looking good. Currently about 18mph and climbing (it dropped a bit after initial surge).

I expect it to climb some more, and hold for quite a while.

Haven't looked at it carefully yet. As always, subject to change. But Jones is looking possible for Thursday, and good for Friday thru Monday. But this is an early forecast.

Coast looking good this weekend, too. And the gorge even before then.
