I launched at Rooster then went up wind to Dalton till the crowd thinned. When I returned I saw two kites tangled.. I rescued a guys board then proceeded to rescue a lady's kite.
I didn't see what happened however after talking with the lady she said they got tangled and the guy cut all her lines because he was getting tangled. She ended up losing her bar.
I also saw a kite tumbling down the beach.
Fun day of kiting and madness.

Saturday was spectacular ! warm & steady all day long. For the most part all the nudies go upwind to the kiddie pool.
Couple of kook pictures here. I seen some real camera's on the beach so hopefully someone captured it better than I did, because it was a special day.

Epic day. Rode the easterlies until Thanksgiving last year. Let's hope there's more of the same this fall. Have no idea who I took pics of. Decided to get the old Canon out and take a few, the wind certainly helped dust it off.
Enjoy

Big shout of thanks to the kiter that saved me and my kite. After a few hours of super steady 8 meter wind my chicken loop popped loose and my kite flagged out to the safety. The bar slid all the way to the kite ( can you attach a stopper ball to limit the length of travel? If so at what length is safe?) as I pulled myself to the kiteand my bar I tried to keep kicking away so the line wouldn't tangle. At the bar I hooked back up and started to feed the safety line back through. Almost to the end the line wrapped around a knife I had installed on the side of my harness. This put the kite into death spirlals. Giving me just enough time between spirals to try to unhook the tangle. Unable to get it loose at the next spiral crash I unhooked the chicken loop and instantly the kite was gone. On the other side of the river, by now way down river I shed a small tear at the loss of my kite and bar and my long swim ahead of me. I put my head down and started paddling and out of nowhere comes a god of wakeboard boots and offered me a ride. After the arm stretching drag back to shore he takes off. I tried to yell thanks but he was gone. 5 minutes later I see him on the horizon dragging a kite from the other side of the river a half mile down stream. Who is this ultimate warrior? He drops the kite at the shore and disappears into the mist. I spend the next 30 minutes scrambling down the rocky shore chasing down my kite.
Things to think about. Some of us want that extra knife for safety. Think carefully about the placement. My knife was gone and the sheath busted. Safety systems that flag all the way to the kite are stupid? How do you fix it? And finally mysterious kite boarders that ride with boots and save crippled old guys are awesome!

You can fix that, but the solution has problems too. A stopper ball attached to the line will prevent the bar from sliding all the way to the kite, but it also increases the chance of a tangle that will prevent full safety deployment. The stopper ball is more risky than no stopper ball; that's why the factory does not include them. A tangle at the stopper ball can result in a powered up kite death looping after dumping the kite to the safety.
The best technique is to swim towards the kite as you head to the bar. This works most of the time, sometimes the bar ends up at the kite in a tangled mess. Still much safer than the kite powered up and death looping. Also much better than back in the early days when EVERY dump to the safety ended up with a tangled rat's nest.
If you add a stopper ball, make sure you still have enough length left to let the kite flag out completely. Otherwise the kite will death loop when you dump it to the safety.
