practicing for our upcoming documentary.
I've already fixed the fast tilt issue in the gimbal. There's still a few subtle vibrations present that I think I might be able to fix too.
winds were about 15mph. Race boards and foils were the key to staying up wind since the tide was working against us.
fun day overall. feels like spring is here!

Cool perspective. I wonder how close you could get? Might work to hover the copter about ten feet off the water and have the kiter come almost directly under... Obviously with his kite nice and low...
Bring that thing to the Hood when you get the hang of flying it in 25mph...

Very watchable. Do you see what you film on a monitor?(how do you position the camera?) _________________ Kite Repair? AND LABRADORS Call me.(509) six 37-four five 29 |

So cool. Please bring it down to the gorge with you, I'd love to see the perspective at Stevenson and the sandbar. |

I'm planning on it. I did the KB4C event last year but that was before I had GPS hold or a gimbal on board so the video quality isn't nearly as stable. For those interested you can find the video on my vimeo page.
I noticed your signature and I'm curious if you're one of the Tona reps down there? I'm the seattle area rep! We should totally get some Tona footy together this summer! Cant wait to get on the Flow and eventually the surfboards they plan on making

As far as altitude. I don't currently have an OSD read out on my monitor so its really difficult to tell how high up I am. The image pretty much looks the same if I'm 10ft or 5ft off the water. Because of this I'll probably keep the quad at least 20ft or higher up for safety purposes. I think at this height we can get some good chase footage without making the riders look like ants.
good question about how close.
Personally since kiters are unpredictable I'd prefer to keep my distance. Were going to be throwing together a documentary on Jetty Island this summer and I'm planning to select a couple riders where we will do some fairly close staged chase scenes. The reason why I say they need to be staged is because it could end very badly if I was following close and the rider decided to turn around without looking.....not like that ever happens.... _________________ www.youtube.com/c/christianjohnsons |

Nice stable footage! Great spot and great light... More dynamic flying would add more to the race / chase dramatic perspective but depending on how you gimbal and camera are setup with respect to quad propellers, it may be impossible to avoid propeller sighting during maneuvers in 15+mph wind... Editing can help but it's nice to have a 10s dynamic sequence too.. Would you mind to share a pic of your quad setup? |
