Lets hope the place doesn't turn into a porn shop....It's not like Portland needs another one.
Trust me, kinda sucks giving me friends directions to my house.
I tell 'em "Hey bro...go down NE 82 till you get to Pink Kitty-just over the hill. Take a right past Pink Kitty - it's just next to the G-Spot. If you've passed Honey Suckles, you've gone too far..." |

i'm no mba but i'm wondering... does a 95K business sitting on 650K worth or real estate make sense?
i'm guessing the owner really wants to keep the shop in pdx but the financial realities might force him to let a more lucrative business in that space or sell it to a developer....
not slamming just curious. that's by far the most convenient brick-and-mortar shop for me ... in fact probably the only one i've ever bought anything in. |

yeah its nice having it so close, I have actually walked there from my place a few times.
some really cool folks have worked there over the years too, it would be a shame to see it turn into a donut shop or something lame like that. |

I totally agree, I think Nate should buy the place...Nate's cool - he can offer you some of the best costumer service around. The guy knows a lot...
From what I've noticed, seemed like managm't was the issue.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it felt like Everyone I've spoken w/ (who have once worked there) seemed to have issues with the guys upstairs. I guess the bottom line must be dollars and cents.
Personally, I hope the shop don't sell. It's a cool kite shop - awesome location. Hope things work out. |

Get 10 investors at 10k each, hire Nate to run the shop and give him 1/11th ownership. |

Porn would help pay the bills and maybe selling Best for some natural advertising.
I always preferred asi to GP but thats just me, it is nice for me to find all the pieces and parts to cobble shit together w/o going to HR. Down the valley we lack options. |

The real problem is how many of you guys really spend any money at your local shop?. If you do support the shop how many of you "supporters" ask for a discount? The small time retailer works off a very slim margin. He has to pay for: The building, Utitilies, Employees, Health Ins. On top of that he has to pay for product. His margin is probably 30% to 40%? It costs him 18% just to bring the product in (building, Utitilies, Employees, Health Ins), Now he has 12% to 22% to work with as his base profit margin. Some prospecting "GRINDER" asks for a discount!
They usually ask for 10% or more, if he needs to make the sale he reluctantly gives the "GRINDER" 10%. Now how can any business make a living on 2% to 12% margin. Lets just say a Kite Complete goes for $1,500, discounted price less 10% = $1350. profit margin = $27 to $162 per $1500 kite sold. Now let account for the product that really did'nt sell, he cant give it away, no body wants it. Who pays for that? He does. Lets not even go into "Winter slow down"
How many kites do you think he really sells? Answer....Not many! Why? INTERNET SALES and discount houses (kite Costcos).
Dude I scored this kite from www.kitecostco.com for really cheap. Or...I got the "hookup" from some factory rep. Thats all fine and dandy. But when you go into your local shop and get no love and then bitch about it on the form....that truly fucked up shit.
Its simple, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESS!!!!!! So that they can support you and be around when you have a problem or a question.
Here is a great example of SUPPORT FROM A LOCAL BUSINESS.
After a very fun powered up demo session I bought 3 three new 2007 kites from Steve and Bob at Gorge Performance during the first week of September. I flew the all three kites, 7m, 9m, and 12m two to three times each. When I returned home from the OBX the first thing I did was call up Steve and Bob at Gorge Performance and explained to them that I was definitely not happy with the three new 2007 kites that I purchased from them. I stated that I had a open mind about the kites and gave them every opportunity, I even thought that I forgot how to fly a kite for a short while......Bob told me to bring the kites back and he would exchange the kite for a different brand/type. No questions, No hassles, No hard feelings, NO PROBLEMS!
How many internet/discount sites do you think would do that.........ZERO!
The moral of the story? SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESS so they can be around when you need them.
This is just my opinion, everybody has one. Im not bashing anybody in particular, Im just saying SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESS |
