Big air event at Rufus. The one windiest day of the wind window: July 8-12 and July 15-16.

For intermediate, expert, and pro level kiters. Xensr device will record the biggest airs. Go for your personal best, whether it is 10', 50', or more.

Would love to compete in this Ken but hanging around for a week or so waiting on a super windy day might be tough for us Seattle folks. Am all in but would need a more solid date. I'll be there for KB4C, hopefully it lines up in time.

Thumb's Up I'm hoping 7-11, late afternoon for us working folk, the wind gods deliver as a fun prep for KB4C. Also, for those of you who don't know the Gator....he's a 6'5" behemoth of a man who launches 50'+. Truly a sight to be seen considering he ain't no 120 lb Lenten. Smile

The organizers have looked at different dates and options. As we all know, summer in Hood River is super busy and that includes a variety of established events.

We will definitely be posting actual dates for the event as soon as a forecast allows. Obviously, if there is a forecasted stretch of low wind, then things are on hold. And likewise, if there is a forecasted stretch of high wind, then be on the ready to go.

Registration and payment will be through Eventbrite, which is just about to go live. We are working at keeping the event cost down while just covering the expense of insurance and permit. Under $50 for sure.

Most importanly, this is a rider-driven event. No big sponsors. So, we value your comments.

Please Facebook - Hood River Huck Fest - for updates.

Jeff speaks the truth. Strapless would be a very cool addition.

The organizers, with quite a bit of input from others, decided to include a few distinct divisions. They are base on real physical differences. Differences where choice is irrelevant. For example a 10 year old grom cannot choose to have the physique of a 25 year old dude, so we have a junior division. As well as a men’s division and women’s division.

In recent weeks I have seen a few strapless riders boost 40’ plus high airs. And talking with those strapless huckers, what limits them is not the lack of straps, rather the type of board. They claim the surf board shape goes big, but doesn’t boost quite as high as a twin tip shape.

Strapless surf boards are welcome, as well as wakestyle, twin tip, skim boards, wake skates, strapped surf boads, Alaia-style boards, etc. Everyone is welcome to come out and HUCK IT.
Very Happy

So the question remains, can we have a strapless HUCK category.
Does the board have to stay on your feet?
Do you have to stick it to gain points?
Or is it just about SENDING IT regardless of the board???

The event is simple. Go as high as one can. The Xensr device records exactly how high (within a few millimeters) one goes.

There is no separate division for strapless. No separate division for boots. No separate divisions for straps. Everyone Hucks together.

Come on out and go for a personal best. Get an actual number of how high you go.

Similar to a marathon race. Only 1 person wins, a very small percentage is actually trying to win, and the vast majority of everyone else is participating to achieve a personal goal.

I would like to add my second for a strapless category.

The guys doing 40' strapless airs may be able to equally high with or without straps, but most big air huckers are unable to go as high strapless. Therefore, I would love to see the names and the heights of the big strapless airs published.

Hey Blazeheliski,

Both Shawn and Jesse Richman will be there so we will run a clinic on one of the non event days. They will be around all week to offer their advice and tips for going big.

I agree a strapless category would be awesome, but running events is HARD especially when you need to have judges and what not. It seems like the simplicity of having sensors on everyone and using that to judge is a good idea.

Strapless would be hard because you would need to account for height and whether or not they landed, rode away, etc..

Maybe next year if they have some more help they can add other categories.
