Hello.
Just trying to organize some things and I was wondering when the afternoon NW winds usually start to pickup? I was anticipating Apr/May maybe when the thermal lows get established in N Cali. Would this be accurate? Thanks very much.

Welcome.
Ya blowing good NW in NorCal now, good spring indicators. Usually that lasts through May down there.
Up here you'll see good NW thermals here and there thru the spring and then the setup really gets going predictably late June through early Sep. Usually. I'm hoping for an early setup this year. Since 2005-06 or so we've had late short summers. |

barfly,
Thanks very much. That's exactly what I wanted to know. I guess I have to look further south for the next few months for some combination of wind and waves, and as the summer kicks in, the northern OR coast will work.
Good wind and waves to you.

Santa Cruz down to Jalama in Cali should be starting to fire around this time of year with good waves still. I'd hang there for now for a sure thing. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

Just looked at the Manzanita ikitesurf wind graph for Mar. 8...looks kinda nice. Hope someone got some of that!
I'm going to start to look for the right setup now, and hope to string a couple of days together for a roadtrip of surf and kite!
genek thanks, will also watch down there, but it's certainly a longer trip for me.
