I am pleased to announce a new snowkite event that Jon McCabe and I are hosting. Snowkite Jam Alaska. http://www.snowkitejam.com/

The event is for intermediate or above (water) kiteboarders with or without previous snowkite experience. March 28-31 in one of the planet's best snowkite locaions - Alaska. This is my 4th year going to AK and this is a great deal on a snowkite / ski trip. Please check out the website for further details.

SnowKite Jam Alaska details
A snowkite freeride event in one of the planet's best locations - Alaska.
4 days - 3 nights based at the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska, March 28-31.
All levels of kite boarders from intermediate level skills on up. No prior snowkiting experience is required.
The plan is to ride at a variety of locations providing the ultimate snowkite experience. And maybe some northern lights to make this a trip of a lifetime.
There are plenty of alternative activities: Skiing/snowboarding world-class Alyeska ski resort, heli-skiing, snowcat skiing, 4-star resort spa, glacier-plane-assisted snowkite adventure, and more.
Please go to the SnowKite Jam website for more information: http://www.snowkitejam.com/

I was working short term in Whitehorse and kited Bennet Lake , awesome place ! I met some others and they told me of the epic kiting late feb -mar. in Alaska . I was told of a lake against a mountainside that has a quarter pipe of snow that runs for appr. 15miles !
many other super snow spots as well !
Now I checked for airfare to Anchorage , wow $900 from Edmonton . With Alaska Air and I hear they are not kiter friendly when it comes to kiteboards ( not that they are needed for this but... )?! Regardless , airfare , rental car , lodging , food and of course while there why not do a cat ski day or two and throw in a day of Heli . Add it all up and a week-ten days can be getting close to $10,000 ! I guess I'll just keep dreaming .

Jack, I have been pricing out options and if you come back down to earth and skip the heli and snowcat (we are kiters, after all), it can be much more reasonable then the 10K you mention. For half of that you can stay a month and get the time of your life kiting. Just saying...

We learned a few things after traveling to Alaska for snowkiting for 4 years.

It is spectacular scenery. They get a lot of snow (average 900" per year at the Pass). They get plenty of wind. And, things are more expensive up there.

We have slept in tents for weeks, cheap motels, RVs, snowcaves, and hotels. Pick your level of comfort. For this trip we secured a super rate on rooms at a hotel with a cable car at it's back door and snowkiting 10 minutes away.

Average Total Cost departing Portland: $2140.

Flight on Alaska Airlines: $650
Car rental: $240
Gas: $50
Event price (includes lodging in sweet hotel, lunches, local guides, snowmobile support, clinics): $999
Breakfasts: $80
Dinners: $120

Someone mentioned a quarter pipe of snow that runs for 15 miles. uummm. Priceless.
