Anyone here been stung by a scorpion or bit by a snake in La Ventana? I was thinking of just sleeping in my sleeping bag on the sand somewhere.

Agreed! If a true El Norte kicks up while you are there is can be 24/7 winds. I was in my tent for 3 weeks and for one of those the El Norte was in full effect. The tent walls were crazy flapping. I cannot begin to imagine what sleeping in the open would be like. When El Norte blows, most of the normal evening Mexico activities like hanging out at a taco (or hot dog) stand seem suspended. The cold wind is just too uncomfortable for most folks to relax with their taco. My Kestral tracked the evening temps at around 54 degrees during this phase. Granted... this was early January. Also, the larger arroyo (ejido) campground has only cold showers, whereas Yoyo's (sp?) campground has hot showers and wifi, for about the same rate of $5-$8.
