i pretty much am a pioneer around here,...was thinkin about starting an organization for getting peeps into the kite scene. so i thought i'd see what you guys have expeirienced and maybe could share some info?
besides the obvious...thanks
edit: what i was thinkin is calling some reps and getting what ever "promo" stuff i could get my hands on,...there is a local paragliders assc. so i was gonna talk to the head dude and see about using there training feild when there not.

i havent flown anything smaller than a 16.5m around here, but..
directly above klamath lake is ageny lake (4.2 miles southwest of chiloquin)...3x4 miles wide and pretty much waist deep thru-out. i go to emigrant lake a lot, agate lake is good,...i live at lost creek lake and there a toxic algae so it can kill you...havent rode there since the bloom went into effect (and you thought the columbia was bad)
i'm about 40 miles from crater lake, and 1 1/2 hrs from the ocean
also the river is nice for riverboarding

I gave up trying to ride the gusty tree sorrounded lakes around my area. The coast is the quality goods. The extra drive is well worth the time in the extra quality wind and area. Plus the waves are grrreat. sol you can pioneer the southern oregon coast and we ride some at crater lake lava fields in the winter when the snow is 20 ft deep.

ditto what registered said. i was once enamored of the tress and rocks and gusts but now i've seen the light.
-> waves are fun!
-> high wind + little kites = more efficient upwind riding.
--> large empty sandy beaches = safety! if something goes bad you tend to get pulled more forward then up, it's awfully nice to have downwind room.
i admit the drive is more dangerous and can be tedious. overall, better to go less often and get the real deal then go all the time and ddddrrraaggg behind big slow kites (or sit skunked on the beach)

i'm not sure what lakes you've tried out...but there is actually decent riding inland (exept for fat ocean swells and small kites).
and if you can take the drive to crater lake, why not go the 30 x-tra miles to check out the klamath lake/agency area....its worth the trip. a picture will always tell a better story so i'll get some posted after todays sesh.

good news!,
so i called the guy at the paragliding school, and it turns out he kites...saweet! but he did frown when i asked about the training field.(something about kites not mixing well with parachutes)ppssscchhh!!!!
however, a local R/C club flys at a place that i go to for riding my mountain board, they argee'd to share the field...as long as we dont try to take out the planes and vice versa
as it turns out they also fly at my stomping pond(agate lake). so i hafta assume that R/C flyers look for the same windy areas that we do.(for consistency)
edit:at least im getting something productive done on days i cant ride
