Those numbers are for C-kites otherwise the approximation doesn't work
example c kite:
kite size m2 + wind velocity knots = 32
Since I am good and heavier I'll opt for +4 or 36 sooooo
m2 + knots = 36; if its 30 knts then: m2 + 30 = 36 or m2 = 6m2 kite
Okay , I'll say I can work a 6m2 c kite in 30 kts
BUT, at 30 kts I can also be on a 9m2 or bigger Bow flat kite easily

The assumption of a constant 12kt board speed pretty much
makes the whole chart worthless.
My rule of thumb...
What's everyone else on? Subtract 2 kite sizes. Go rip.
wanna know my secret????
I get my power from v squared!

What's the square root of 2?
1.41
That means a kite going 41% faster
gives as much lift as a kite 2 times bigger.
So if you're going 12kts on your 17
and I can ride at 17 knots using
my low drag board then I can be on
a 9.

Yah Hein, this stuff is a bit dated, but still interesting to ponder.
Knew you’d give us the rocket scientist review.
As always, thanks for the comments & insight, Dano

It was Hein bait. Thanks for the opportunity.
Not rocket science though. It's just basic algebra.
The key here is not to try to put values in the formula
and come up with an answer. Instead, take a look at the
terms and see how changing the value effects the result.
Since the velocity is squared (multiplied by itself) then
increasing it makes the lift increase much more dramatically
than an increase in area (which has no multiplier).
Math lesson over.
