my bro used like 3 pint size cans of varnish on his board,..not only did it weigh like 20 pnds but also started to bubble up underneath the paint,....made a cool effect, like a dry lakebed.

Fiberglass Supply in Bingen.
I designed the boat shown
on their home page.
Or you can come by because I
have lots of scraps that might
work. Free for the taking.
1 or 2 layers of 4 oz would be
good over ply. That's what
I used on my 6mm thick FlyWood
and I"ve F-16 tested it.

If you're in Portland, check out Tap Plastics. Not as good as Fiberglass Supply, but they have the basics.

West system makes a very good epoxy. It comes in cans with little pumps. One pump of resin, one pump of hardener mix and your ready to go.
My only advice is mix well and wear rubber gloves and old clothes!! |

Tap has carbon too if you're looking for a "cooler" look than just basic glass... |

Thu Jun 29, 06 11:36 am Does your board float |
|
|
A question for the plywood board builders/users. Does your board float on top of the water or just under the surface?
I was testing a new one last night ( two 1/4 inch layers of birch ply with flip tips) and It does'nt float to well but it rides nice.
Any secrets to floatyer construction methods.

Mine are neutrally bouyant as well, they float at not on the surface. Do the flip tips do much to help stop the nose digging in or is it all down to rocker or lack of? |

The flip tips worked great in the chop I thought they would also help with the floatation issue but it does'nt seem to.
I also wonder if a continous rocker would be better.
