Mon Sep 13, 21 10:11 am Sanding down Moses wings |
|
|
Hi everyone,
I am using the Moses 633/483 wings and I would like to sand down their trailing edges so they are less sharp. I am free riding ,no jumping or racing
Did anyone try to do it? If so …
- which sand paper did you use for the task?
- Any best practices & tips?
- Any noticeable impacts to the wing performance post sanding?
Thanks,
Lior |

Following this discussion. Somewhere here on NW kite, a few months back, there was a thread with detailed instructions and diagrams.
If I can dig it up, I’ll post the link.
I have some wingsets I’m itching to try, but I need to dull the sharp edges first.[url] _________________ Pull the cork. |

Be aware that he changes his advice in one of his next videos.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMieQ_pdsPA
He says that if you do the square edge, it whistles badly. He further says in the next video to take those 2 square edges and round them over slightly.
Here's another perspective from Lift:

So, what's a foiler to do? 2 differing viewpoints really. |

I've sanded all of the trailing edges on my Moses masts, stabs, 633, 790 and 873 wings. Absolutely no singing or noticeable effect on performance. It's critical though to use a very rigid sanding block; the edge must be square or it will sing. Use 400 grit sandpaper to slow things down. Check the thickness of the edge often, you're looking for 1 - 1.5 mm thick edges, no more. You'll need good calipers or a micrometer, and a high power magnifier helps a lot too. Once you get your edges, use 600 grit sandpaper to very lightly take the sharp edge of the upper and lower edge of the square trailing edge. Not too much, just enough to take off the sharpness. One very light pass should do it. |
