At the beach today, but did not have kite gear. Drove by Netarts Bay and it looks like a place I ought to try.

I've kited quite a bit at South Jetty, Shipwrecks and Manzo, but never Netarts. I get the part about avoiding the entrance during ebb tide, but anything else worth noting?

Awe... I have kited there many years ago. The picture Bill posted looked soooo inviting and my old mind forgot I have kited there!

Easy launch. I remember driving down chicken dinner road and parking at the end.
(Can’t miss the parking area). Walked a little, launched and ripped around for a few hours. I do remember the residents were super-stocked to watch me. They asked many questions and said they enjoyed seeing kites on the water. The tides gotta be right tho. I tried another time and it wasn’t worth it.

Boy tho, if everything sets up nicely, it is sooooo worth it!

Last time I kited here the wind abruptly and completely died after one reach, I washed into the bay (as previously alluded, you want to kite on a slack or incoming tide here for good reason), packed it up, and paddled ashore by the Schooner. No wallet/no beer... Plan ahead!

YMMV... Laughing

I kited there 12 yrs ago in the earlier surfboard movement. Pretty nice. The wind seemed less gusty than Oceanside.

I kited there (kinda if you call a few minutes kiting) once about 8 years ago. Tides make for a lot of water flow... I packed up pretty quickly as I was by myself and not comfortable with the flow.

do respect the inlet on the outgoing

- one of the newbies to our jetski fishing crew was in the bay this spring with his girlfriend "just taking a look" they flipped the ski and couldnt get back to it (fucking new guy)

it was 45 minutes later and 2 miles offshore thru overhead waves before the two were rescued by coast guard helicopter

but if you do go, bring a mask cause 35 miles out it starts to look hawaii - i had no idea, kind of blew my mind

WORD!

A tough one to hit, but when all the planets and moons are alined it will make you high as a kite and it is soooo sweet. Lots of better places to hedge your bet ( ie time and efforts) to ensure a quality session on the ocean.

On one of my more memorable days on the OR coast ever--08-04-07. 20 mph + winds, non-gusty NW wind (as non-gusty as OC/Netarts gets).

Hit it with an incoming tide, mid-day and so kiting all afternoon.

http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-5587-0-asc-51.html see page 4 of the 5 on this thread for OC/Netarts pics.

Pic of one of my riding pals that day. Not sure if it was pre or post session? Check out the eyes. Toby had some type of special contact lens with UV protection. OR he was just high on kiting. Probably both!
