I am heading to Reno. Anyone know if there is kiting on Lake Tahoe or surrounding lakes this time of the year?
Kite launches on Tahoe?
Thx, Onad T.

Washoe Res out of Carson City is your best bet for wind.

Washoe Lake south of Reno is definitely your best option. Lake Tahoe is a shit-show of moored boats just offshore and tons of beach goers. Incline Village and Kings Beach would be your closest kite spots to Reno if the lake was void of boats and people. Enjoy Washoe!

I kited Lake Tahoe for the first time last month (bucket list), I've been watching guys kite north lake Tahoe for years. The lake level is high (the past few years) so there are limited beaches to launch. In the past I've seen guys launch from King's beach, but the lake level is too high now. The local crew is now launching at a private beach (no public access by land) in Incline Village. The launch is very tight, with trees waiting to eat kites (expert only). Getting off the beach in a storm surge is very challenging. Downwind there are multiple parked boats that you have to navigate (expert only). The wind is up and down. Most of the time, the local guys are on hydrofoils. The water is chilly, most guys wear full winter gear (hood, gloves, glasses, etc). Kite quiver 8M-12M should cover you for most days. July and August are very crowded with beach goers, I would only try to kite on stormy days when the beach is pretty empty. I wouldn't attempt to kite if the local crew is not out kitesurfing, as they are out if it is windy and the conditions are doable.
I'd recommend bringing a SUP, perfect complement to no wind days.
