Thu Jul 20, 17 1:33 am wakesurfing with SS Trex |

I sometimes break tradition, usually when I'm on a time frame, and go out with some friends wakesurfing. I have a trex board and was wondering if it will work at least as well as a wakesurfing board or if i really need to invest in one. I know the trex fins are much deeper which might make some tricks more difficult. Was thinking about investing in a boat anyway for the family on non wind days anyway so i may be needing my own equipment.

You gave up the perfect board, the LF Kitefish, to me. That would have been ideal.
Given it's construction, the kitefish would take the dings that wakesurfing delivers - mostly when in the boat.
Your T-rex is not really made for wakesurfing, but it will work and will even have a more surfy feel to it. That is not always a good thing as you really want a more skim board feel to a wakesurf board.
But it will work for just getting up on the wake.

I can't see how it won't work, but I think Matt's analysis is correct. If shelling out for a boat, may as well send some $ to Inland Surfer too. Note, I ordered a dinged board from them (several years ago) for a greatly reduced rate. Wasn't dinged, but had some tar on the rails (which cleaned right up). Great boards.
Not you question, but if shopping today, I'd probably invest in the large Dwarfcraft and foil as wakefoiling looks intriguing (You get a dual purpose toy in the process).

The T-rex will do well as a surf style wake surfer, it's a bit long at 5-4 for wake surfing so it will feel more like a longboard behind the boat. It would still surf much better than the kitefish in all respects.
I find that skim style boards are a lot more fun so I would pick something like the LF Keen or an Exile Skimfin.
Skims are great behind a kite too if you have flat water.

My ancient 2005 6'x20" jimmy lewis thruster surfboard was awesome behind my friend's boats - a chapparal something or other and then a Malibu wakesetter.
Key is to remove the center fin.
Trex probably too skinny for best results but maybe ok if you're light or skilled with a huge wake.
Try it as a twin with the smaller side fins in the front position if possible.

Trex will work but it's not very fun it's slow. We mostly ride soulcraft boards behind the boat. If you get a boat grab a Ronix board they are pretty awesome and great board for everyone to use. We have had a few slingshot skimmys too they are pretty fun behind the boat and kiting

^ puny wave. got a suck gate? if not pm me.
Don't really get the foils behind a boat. It's already smooth, no?
All SS boards we've tried seemed slow to us also. easy to get sucked out the back.
Byerly Hazard and Phase 5 Wire are good production boards.
Soulcraft wants too much their boards. Guess its the hype. Are they even epoxy?

A foil could, possibly, allow you to surf your boat's weak side. Im goofy and my boat's surf wave is port, so all i get to do is heel side.
Again, if looking for a wakesurf board, check out Inland Surfer. That's all they do. HQ up around Seattle.

^ suck gate needed.
Wake surfing is a great way to work on riding switch. Get that mastered and then impress your crew with a little backside riding.

Ghetto or not, it will improve your wave and get rid of the crumble.
You'll be able to get a little further back from the swim platform.
So as not to be distracted by shenanigans going on in the boat.

Well Honda, did I see you on the JD this past Saturday in a red Zodiac (like) boat? A nugget on a SS direction was getting towed around. Kid looked to be having some fun, but I could almost see the yearning in his eyes for a touch more wake. If so, next time, we'll throw him a line and yank him around a bit if you like (assuming that was you guys. If not, well, that might be a little weird).
