Wed Jul 12, 06 9:46 am POLL: Should we censor our language for youngest members? |
|
|
Hi All, seems like recently people are posting quite a bit of profanity in their posts and spelling out the whole words instead of using well-placed ***'s - Not that it bothers me, but I know we have some little tykes out there lurking. What do you think? How about we tone it down a little for the young ones? Just a thought, Tonski
PKH - can you keep this question at the top as a POLL? |

Are there any parents of kiter-kids who might want to chime in? |

Isn't it some of the groms that are doing the most swearing?
I'll go with the popular vote, but I am not to keen on censoring. The auto censor (computer driven) stuff works terribly...
That said maybe the rule should be "if you don't want to read it aloud to your mom than don't post" ... maybe especially true for me because I found out my mom checks the site. |

I've seen the language the kids use on myspace etc (especially the ones at Bay) this board is mild by comparison. I vote to leave it to individuals. |

Not that I am strongly for or against this, but sometimes you just need to read/write a good f-bomb to get some real emotion! In those cases, a f#*@&ng just doesn’t have the same effect.
Besides, how would you enforce this? Would a person get banned from the site if they used an adult 4 letter word.....like SHIT! Oh, I mean S%$T |

My intent was to see if site users thought it would be a good idea to use profanity sparingly and with some taste - not just throwing F-bombs for the sake of it. Does that make any sense?
PKH: Can you re-word poll, or is it too late? I didn't intend a ban or any enforcement - just common sense and awareness that mom's or young kids (10 year old for eg.) are lurking. |

A certain level of decorum is nice for everyone, not just the kiddies.
Seems like every song I grab to put over my kite video footage has a sprinkling of profanity however.

i kind of like the way BEST does it. they auto substitute words in for you... so the sub for the oh-sh*t handle is the oh-number2...
we can be pretty creative without dropping the F-bomb all the time. |

Well I can't change the poll after its been started, that sounds like an election straight outta Florida.
If people just voice their comments on this thread, that should be a good way to gauge opinion. |

Fuck yeah that makes all the cocksucking sense in the world. Besides, people that are always fucking cussing look like dipshits.
In terms of the little ones, i agree witht he above post. Most 14-16yo's that I encounter have a mouth that would make a sailor blush. |
